I defrosted our fridge.
It was after Holy Week that I found the time to defrost our titanically loaded "with ice, not food po" refrigerator. It has gone beyond the worst of the ice age to avalanche to sub zero, whatever you call that. Seriously speaking, when the entire of appliance has been performing improperly, it was time to do so. Decluttering the fridge felt like a relief for me, I guess for many homemakers. So this was what happened.
I found some;
Frozen passionfruit, which I was worried that I don't have food anymore. It is true if you keep your eyes wide open, truly there will always be a way to find food. One trying hard mantra I try to do is to buy less packaged food, but of course, I still fail to do so po. Any harvest from our small place in the province po, we usually store it in the freezer to prolong its shelf life, it does work with other vegetables not just peas and carrots.
I also made steamed rice and fried some beef tapa for Jiggy.
Frozen Mango puree, and guava fruit. I was so happy to find out there was food. That's one of my wishes to not buy any more just whats around. I know that is impossible. I will find a way po.
One thing is when you defrost, you have to juggle time between what food is quick to serve and using a huge space in the kitchen for defrosting. It was chaotic.
I also found some Tamarind perfect for any sour-based recipes or if this was ripened (naturally) -simply add sugar, chilies, and salt to make those tamarind candies.
Ever since I learned mom's recipe of Paksiw na Bangus( we do have versions of our own po), Paksiw na Bangus ( Milkfish in Vinegar Garlic and Ginger) has been a favorite.
A lot of bread bags. This huge wide-size slab of ice that was stuck in the lower part of the appliance( chiller) as in not in the freezer has been waiting to be saved. Only jars and containers were holding it against the wall po. I got it out by slowly removing jars, because it was heavy, it was set to dismantle on its own po. The carrying part was the challenging one.. I transferred the slab to the other sink. Just to let it melt. I don't know if this was good to dispose of on a pant ground?
I put all those that needed to be thrown out in a sack. Saved what needs to be saved.
I also had time to scrape off a large variety of tomato seeds for planting.
I enjoyed sorting the fruits I found. Also when I had to push down spread pouches, a great way to at least save a meal for a day po.
I got a cold glass of water, and really got tired and hungry po. So this is what my usual breakfast po. If there's fish, then I would have that if none, then it will be any fruit or vegetable. If there's none, I have been learning to forage. Anyways this is a different story, please watch my foraging stories na lang po.
A new pair of flawed heeled shoes and bag are free for anyone who might have the talent to restore and be able to use it still. Please do not hesitate to contact me.
